About

“There’s always a project going on at the Karbers”—a common sentiment in our circles.

Weekend warriors well-versed in sweat equity, the Karber family owes our grit and can-do attitude to our Mennonite heritage.

On the rural plains of Oklahoma, our first project was the family centennial farm. Grandpa Karber and his dad built the family home in 1936, hand-sawing and milling much of it themselves. Like a traditional barn raising, the Karbers handcrafted the garage, the bins, the round-top, the milking barn, and much more—all from ground-up. Over the years we added onto the farmhouse at the home place, gutting then renovating it and eventually pouring our hearts into new projects, new places.

Today, the Karbers continue to rally around this DIY way of life. We started ANVIL to honor and make what has always been our tradition, an official family affair.

These days we hail from different areas in the West: interior designer + architect Brit Epperson (PLOW) lives and works in Sonoma County, CA; general contractor + builder Barrett Karber (GRAIN) is out of Santa Monica, CA; project manager + superintendent Debbie Karber lives in Colorado Springs, CO; advisor, jack-of-all-trades, and handyman Curtis Karber lives in Colorado Springs, CO; and storyteller + communicator Brystal Karber lives in Colorado Springs, CO.
